A silver topped locking inkwell from a writing slope. The silver is engraved and has a monogram of the original owner's initials on the lid which I can't quite decipher!

The silver wing nut unscrews to release the lid and inside is the opening for the well. the back of the lid has a screw on silver disc which should cover a pad of leather or rubber which would act as a seal when the lid is screwed down-the original must have disintegrated.

It is in excellent condition-no damage and by well known London makers Halstaff and Hannaford of Regent Street London. The hall mark dates it to London 1842.

If you need it for a box it would sit within a 4.5cm square space and its height is 2mm under 4cm.
