A pair of silver sugar tongs dating from the late 18th century of an unusual design only popular for a short period.
They are engraved with bright cutting and the action uses a spring loaded pivot hinge. The hallmarks are at the top under the arms-maker WC plus the sterling lion.
I found an identical pair online identifying the maker as London silversmith William Cattell.
14cm long.
In good condition- no breaks or repairs but there are scratches around the pivot on both sides-see photos.
