A snuff box made of walnut and lined with tortoiseshell. It doesn't have an obvious way of opening it and would have been an amusement when offered to friends for a pinch! c 1850
There is a square of wood in the middle of one long side that pushes up lifting the lid slightly at the same time. It is a little stiff but is working.
The black lines are inked on and some areas rubbed through use.
In excellent condition.
