A Georgian sewing clamp with painted decoration dating to the start of the 19th century circa 1800-1820. It has a pin cushion on top and the yellow silk is the original in lovely condition. That section unscrews to reveal a box for other small sewing tools. It is painted with a leaf design -a small version around the pin cushion and a larger variant around the box.
The red label indicates it was a souvenir -'A Trifle From Tunbridge Wells'
In style it is referred to as 'Painted' Tunbridge Ware as it pre-dates the more recognizable 'Inlaid' Tunbridge.
16cm long with the clamp set in the position in the photos.
8cm in diameter.
Condition- in good condition other than a small area on the large leaf design which shows discoloration and pitting to the varnish. (see last photo)
