An inlaid Tunbridge Ware box with a pack of Besique / Bezique playing cards. This is just a normal pack but only using 7 upwards including the ace. Inside it is lined with maroon paper and fitted with a purple ribbon which helps to remove the pack of cards. There is also a block set in the side with 4 holes intended for scoring pegs.
The cards and scorers are by Charles Goodall of London. The cards have rounded corners but no numbers which I believe dates them to circa 1870. They are in good condition but with light staining and corner damage to a few.
The inlay is in good order no losses or restoration. The sides of the box are rosewood. There is some surface marking to the original finish. The lock and hinges are the originals.
