A silver plated wax jack which holds its original coil of sealing wax. It would have sat on a writing table to be used when adding a personal seal to letters and official documents by melting the wax and then impressing it with a patterned seal. This one is English and has its snuffer attached by a chain. c1880
The maker's name is stamped on the base- Mappin & Webb Ltd.
In excellent condition- no damage and with only slight wear to the plated finish on the base rim.
