An unusual card and paper box by Narcissa Niblack Thorne decorated with marbled effect paper and silver paper trim. The lid is set with a painted paper cut out of a house and gardens by a river arranged to give a 3D effect and set against a painted sky with birds.
Inside is a typed paper from the previous owner indicating it is likely to be a late piece from Narcissa Niblack Thorne's workshop. She was a wealthy American philanthropist who was known for her very elaborate miniature rooms. She left her work to the Chicago Institute of Arts ( she passed away in 1966 and was born in 1882 ). The paperwork also states it is similar to signed pieces in that person's collection and is believed to date to the 1950s.
Condition- Some of the silver trim is missing and there is some dust behind the glass but it is undamaged.
