An unusual Tartan Ware needle case in book form. It is decorated in the 'Prince Charlie' pattern but unusually, it is also titled 'From Rannoch' in gold in a diamond shaped cartouche. c1880.
The spine is a blue velvet and inside it is lined in blue silk with pockets for the needle packets. The looped closure contains a decorative steel bodkin.
The three needle packets are stamped 'Jas. Smith & Sons' a Redditch needle manufacturer.

In very good condition- the varnished finish is intact and the silk lining is clean showing little sign of use. The two tabs holding the bodkin are a slightly worn but sturdy.
NB. Rannoch is a picturesque area in the Scottish highlands known for its freshwater loch and moorland.
