An attractive 19th century French vernis martin bonbonniere. The round papier mache box is lacquered in gold and painted with floral sprays. The gold finish is over a worked ground and has the effect of guilloche enamel.
It was originally made to contain small candies or bonbons but then used to hold trinkets.
In very good condition- some minor chipping where the lid fits the base.
