A wooden thread barrel from an early Georgian workbox in the style known as Painted Tunbridge Ware which predates the better known inlaid work of Victorian times.
The little barrel is line painted in faded red and black. The lid unscrew to reveal the inner spindle. There is a small hole in the side through which the thread is pulled keeping the rest clean inside the barrel.
In excellent condition- no damage.
