A Scottish pen and ink snuff box with integral wooden hinge decorated with a well drawn scene of a hound drinking with reeds in the background. The sides and base of the box are decorated with leaves in black ink. The pen and ink work uses the blonde sycamore ground as a foil. The whole is varnished. c1830
Inside the wooden hinge is sound but the silvering has long since disintegrated.
The edges of the box show rubbing to the varnish but the pattern is mainly intact apart from a patch on the front worn away from the action of opening it. The rest of the varnished surface has some light scratching and pitting ( see last photo ).
