A large piece of Painted Tunbridge Ware in the form of a sewing clamp. c1800
The platform on the top contains a variety of tools- two identical needle cases which drop through circular holes, a fixed tape measure with a yellow silk tape starting at 1 nail, a fixed box containing a pin cushion which is topped by an acorn shaped cover- it may have contained a tall wooden thimble originally but is now empty. Below the platform are two fixed cotton barrels.
The wood is painted with concentric circles other than the spine of the clamp, this is painted with a floral spray. The support is turned from a dark wood as are the two lids on the cotton barrels. The rest is made of boxwood.
29cm high from the top of the acorn shape to the bottom of the turned screw-as photographed.
The platform section is 7.5cm in diameter.
In excellent condition- no damage just minor scuffing to the varnished finish.
