This was acquired with a lot of sewing tools but I think it is more likely a handle perhaps for a fan? It is inlaid with different coloured woods depicting Mount Fuji. The wood on the back is bird's eye maple.
There's a slot at one end about 2cm deep which may well go down deeper into the handle. There was some crystalized substance in the slot which dropped out.
