A good automatic rewind tape measure with a gem picture of Ringwood in Hampshire. The side is covered in gold tooled leather and the back has a disc of mirror glass. c 1860
In super condition with a good strong rewind. The picture is also clear and undamaged with no sign of the usual patching on the edges.
4 cm in diameter
1.2 cm high
NB. Gem Pictures are prints on glass. The print is glued to the glass and then the paper is thinned from the back. Glitter is added to give it depth and sparkle. Adhesion to the glass of the paint is weak so over the years most pieces have lighter areas on the edges which are more obvious when seen at an angle. Examples in good condition are hard to find.
