A silver key shaped knitting needle protector with hanging chain.
The central section has some decorative tooling and the ends are silver filigree. A yellow glass? stone, faceted on one side, is set in the top of the key. A small, empty mount in the base suggests there may have been another there but it isn't that noticeable in the filigree design.
There is a possible silver mark but it isn't easily readable. However, knitting needle covers and retainers are European-usually mid 19th century and Austrian or Dutch.
