A barrel shaped glass sander with a silver plated lid engraved with the crest of either a Baron, a Viscount or an Earl. It is of a helmeted head facing left with visor raised which indicates it belonged to a peer of the realm but it can't be pinned down to a particular person.
The piercing is similar to that found on wooden sanders of the period-circa 1840. The glass is cut to imitate the staves of a barrel.
7cm high
base diameter 3.5cm
