A novelty pressed base metal (brass?) needle packet case in the shape of 'Cock Robin's Grave'. The framework is decorated with the various animals, birds and insects which took a part in preparing the funeral according to the story.
The central section has a little hinged lid inscribed 'In Memory of Poor Cock Robin' and opens to reveal a coffin shape-some examples have a little printed picture of cock robin there but this one doesn't.
The base has two hinged flaps where the needle packets would go.
The impressed mark reads W Avery & Son Redditch and a diamond shaped design registration mark for 1880 and pattern no. 635.
In very good condition- no damage or missing parts (I've compared it to the Coulthart's images of it online-(an excellent resource for all Avery novelty cases).
The base measures 7.5 x 5cm
Height 3.5cm
Stock no. LM21
