A brown leather case with gold linear tooling and a carrying handle. Inside it is lined in purple paper and purple cloth and is fitted in the lid with a set of steel sewing tools. There's a bodkin, an earspoon / tweezer combo, a pair of scissors, a file and a needle case. c1880.
The front drops down and has a wide loop which may have contained flat- possibly a long thread winder but is now empty. The catch works well. There are 4 small gilt metal studs on the base acting as feet.
In good condition- there is wear on the back to the edges of the leather left and right at the hinge but as it is reinforced by material on the inside it isn't a problem. There is also a distortion to the right hand side of the box which has opened the join at the front. (see photos) . The tools are in excellent condition.
The box measures 13.5 x 7.5cm x 5cm
