A maroon leather case lined in matching velvet and fitted with silver sewing tools in their own cut out compartments. The 8 pieces comprise a pin basket, a thimble, a tape measure, a bodkin, a pair of scissors with sheath, a tweezer/ earspoon combo. a folding seam knife and a stiletto /awl.
All the pieces are silver except for the bodkin which is steel. The embossing of flowers and fruit and the odd seashell is typical of the period circa 1830-1840.
In excellent condition- no damage or repair to case or tools.
NB. The bodkin would have been a silver one originally but the steel replacement is exactly the right size. The silk tape starts with the printed number 3.
Joseph Taylor was one of the known maker's of these sets who used the initials IT on his small silverwork which is likely to be the stamp under the basket's handle but as it's in an awkward position I can't see it clearly. However the blade of the seam knife is stamped Taylor.
The case measures 13 x 8.5 x 3cm
