A rare commemorative lace bobbin - souvenirs from a Victorian public hanging.
The bobbin is inscribed 'William Worsley hung 1868'.

It is in excellent order with no damage and with its original spangle including square cut glass beads.
5 inches in length.
( 13 cm )

NB. William Worsley was convicted of the murder of a man at Luton in Bedfordshire . The second prisoner, Levi Welch turned king’s evidence and accused Worsley of the killing and so escaped the gallows. Worsley was the last man to be publicly hanged at Bedford in 1868.


NB. Lace making was a cottage industry using domestic animal bone and local soft woods.
