A silver mount covering a red pad filled with emery for sharpening the needle. The silver has scalloped ends and is engraved with bright cutting. c1840.
The cloth would have been velvet but it has lost its nap. However there are no holes so no emery is escaping.
In very good condition- no damage to the silver.
