A thread waxer decorated with different types and colours of fern by transfer. c1870.
Each side has a different pattern of fern in mainly red, green and a dark blue and are varnished over. They sandwich a cake of beeswax which was used to smooth the sewing thread in the days before mercerization.

In excellent condition- one minor chip out of the varnish which hasn't affected the pattern at all. (see last photo)
