A painted wooden thimble dating to c1800 of a type called Painted Tunbridge Ware which is a forerunner of the inlaid Tunbridge Ware.
It's tall (typical of thimbles of the period) with no rim and painted with black and red concentric lines. They are usually unvarnished, as is this one, so any dirt or fingering does mean they are hard to find in good condition.
