A plain oval buckle but with Irish silver marks. It id likely to be a knee buckle judging by its size and the silver marks date it to the late 18th century.
The marks are easy to read- Hibernia for Irish sterling silver, a harp for the Dublin assay office (both have oval outlines) and maker's mark NV. The date letter is a Q in a shield which is 1788.
NB. The outlines of the silver marks are as important as the letters within in dating silver.
