A very finely wrought steel buckle which was probably attached to a leather belt. The buckle section is hinged. The rest isn't flexible but is riveted to a plain back plate of steel. There are two short projections helping to sandwich the leather between the two plates.
It measures 7.5cm (3inches) in length and 1.8cm (0.75 inch) at its widest.
Super quality with no damage.
I'm not certain of its exact age but the quality suggests mid 18th century possibly Woodstock steelwork.
No cutler's marks.
