A long facet cut glass bottle with a flattened round stopper and gold highlighting.
There was revival in the 19th century-particularly in America- of an old ritual where a widows tears were caught in a bottle and then tipped on the husband's grave on the anniversary of the death. These bottles are therefore called Lachrymose or Tear Catcher Bottles in America but, less romantically, Oxford Lavender Water bottles in the UK. c1830
