A striking black velvet evening bag with a steel mount, steel bead fringe and decorative steel beading. There are also some black 'french jet' beads in amongst the steel for heightened effect. It's carried by a black silk ribbon.
Condition- there are some loose threads so, although not obvious, there are probably some missing beads however none are dropping off now. There is also a bit of metal by the hinge on one side replacing a lost steel rivet but this doesn't effect the opening and closing of the bag.
Age- the steel mount dates it to circa 1850-1860.
Not counting the ribbon handle it measures 16cm from the catch to the bottom of the longest fringe of beading. Maximum width 14cm.
