A small pair of buckles used by a Georgian lady or gent to hold up their stockings. They are hall marked for Birmingham 1822 by JW probably Joseph Willmore who was a known maker of buckles.

They are decorated with a crisscross of incised lines and  edged with simulated beading. The prongs are steel with a steel anchor form chape. They would have been attached to a band of patterned silk or ribbon which tightened around the stocking.
