A hand made 19th century glass scent bottle with coloured enamelling. This type is known by a variety of names-
1. Tear catcher / lachrymatory- based on the idea that they were to catch tears when mourning the dead in ancient times after many were found in Roman tombs.
2. Lavender or Rosewater perfume bottles.
It's a good example being amber coloured glass and with enamelling plus gilt highlighting. It's also long for it's type at 18cm including the stopper. They were made to lie flat and do make a stunning display when grouped together.
In excellent condition.
