An antique chatelaine for a young lady to wear at a ball with the necessary repair kit of a scent bottle, mirror and cosmetic pot! It is made of steel deliberately oxidized to appear a silver grey.
It has an applied motif of a four leaf clover set with stones on the three pieces- hoping perhaps that with luck she would meet her future husband whilst wearing it?
The end clips are of rolled gold and quite dramatic. The part that goes over a belt or waist band has been left plain and is silver plate on copper. c 1870
